Arches 300gsm Medium Pads Made from 100%. The Medium surface, sometimes referred to as Cold Pressed or NOT, offers a versatile texture that sits comfortably between smooth Hot Press and heavily textured Rough paper. Its fine, even tooth provides enough texture to help hold pigment while still allowing excellent control for detailed brushwork, making it a popular all-round choice for watercolour artists.
At 300gsm, the paper is substantial enough to cope with generous washes, wet-on-wet techniques and multiple layers of paint. The strong cotton surface also allows artists to lift colour, soften edges, glaze and rework areas without the paper breaking down easily.
The subtle texture is particularly effective for landscapes, botanical subjects, portraits, still life and expressive washes, giving paintings a gentle surface character without overpowering fine details. It also works beautifully with granulating watercolours, allowing pigments to settle naturally into the texture of the paper.
